Skilled Nursing Facility

Sacred Heart Hospice first opened its doors as a home for the aged in June, 1964. The name “Hospice” was chosen to reflect its meaning as “a place where weary travelers may rest.” The construction of the facility was made possible through a large bequest from Fred Dugan, a former Hormel treasurer, who saw a need in Austin for a retirement home that would offer beauty, purpose, and dignity to the lives of its residents, as well as quality health care services. Today our skilled nursing facility, serving 59 residents, continues in that tradition.

Skilled Nursing Facilities serve as licensed healthcare residences for individuals who require a higher level of medical care than can be provided in an assisted living facility. Skilled nursing staff consisting of RNs, LPNs and certified nurse’s assistants (CNAs) who are available to provide 24-hour medical attention.
